    1. The ligand in the substrate replaced by the nucleophile in a nucleophilic substitution, before and after the reaction, is called the leaving group.

    2. The ligand in the substrate that leaves with a H+ in a 1,1-elimination or in a 1,2-elimination, before and after the reaction, is called the leaving group.
