This course is the first in the three-term undergraduate inorganic chemistry sequence.  The first part of the course will consist of an introduction to the electronic structure of atoms and simple molecules, molecular geometry and structure, and elementary symmetry concepts.  In the second half, we will cover the structure of solids, acids and bases, d-metal complexes and oxidation and reduction. It is expected that the student already have a good understanding of periodic trends, VSEPR, Lewis dot, atomic orbitals, and some familiarity with valence bond theory, and molecular orbital theory. It is expected that the entire Periodic Chart be memorized for the final exam.
